'Batwara 1947' box office collection day 11: The Sunny Deol starrer nears end of its box office run with just Rs 35 lakhs on second Monday, struggles to touch Rs 40 crore India net

‘Batwara 1947’ continued its slow run at the box office on its second Monday. The Sunny Deol starrer clashed at the box office with Emraan Hashmi‘s ‘Awarapan 2’ on Independence day and the latter is in a completely different league. The Emraan Hashmi starrer had already collected Rs. 136.25 crore net in India by Day 10 while ‘Batwara 1947’ continues to struggle to touch Rs 40 crore at the box office. The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Day 1 and saw a big jump to Rs 13.50 crore on Day 2. It then collected Rs 7.25 crore on Day 3 before falling to Rs 2 crore on the first Monday. The film ended its opening week with Rs 33.60 crore. The second weekend did not bring much improvement. ‘Batwara 1947’ earned Rs 75 lakh on the second Friday, followed by Rs 1.15 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.30 crore on Sunday. On Monday, day 11, the film has made a negligible amount of Rs 35 lakhs and now the total India net stands at Rs 37.15 crore. The India gross total is Rs 44 crore while the worldwide collection is Rs 53 crore. This means ‘Awarapan 2’ has earned nearly Rs. 100 crore more than ‘Batwara 1947’ in India net collections by the end of Day 11. While ‘Awarapan 2’ is racing towards the Rs 150 crore milestone, ‘Batwara 1947’ is struggling to maintain momentum and is heading towards an underwhelming theatrical run. With this, one can expect the end of the film’s run at the box office and reportedly made on a budget of Rs 120 crore, ‘Batwara 1947’ will suffer a loss and the film unfortunately has failed to meet expectations. The contrast is especially notable considering both films arrived around the Independence Day period. While ‘Awarapan 2’ has benefited from strong word of mouth and sustained audience interest, ‘Batwara 1947’ has failed to turn its initial weekend momentum into a long-lasting box office run.
