Passenger vehicle sales stood at over 12.7 lakh units during the April-June quarter.

NEW DELHI: India’s vehicle market showed a clear regional divide in the first quarter of FY27, with Maharashtra emerging as the country’s biggest market for passenger and commercial vehicles, while Uttar Pradesh led sales of two- and three-wheelers.According to data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), passenger vehicle sales stood at over 12.7 lakh units during the April-June quarter. Maharashtra topped the states with sales of nearly 1.5 lakh units, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. At the regional level, the western zone led passenger vehicle sales with 3.9 lakh units. The divide was sharper in the two-wheeler market, which remained significantly larger than other vehicle categories. A total of around 56.3 lakh two-wheelers were sold during the quarter, with UP alone accounting for over 8.8 lakh units.
