Himachal Pradesh to introduce three-time attendance system across 150 CBSE government schools, says CM Sukhu

The Himachal Pradesh government will introduce a three-time attendance system in 150 CBSE government schools, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Tuesday after chairing a meeting of the Education department in Shimla.Attendance will be recorded at three stages of the school day: morning arrival, during the lunch break and at checkout. Sukhu said the measure would apply to all 150 CBSE government schools covered by the state initiative.Teacher dress code to take effect from October 1Separate dress codes will be prescribed for teachers and students in the CBSE schools. The teachers’ dress code will become mandatory from October 1, 2026. To help teachers buy the prescribed dress, the government will provide one-time special financial assistance of Rs 5,000.A decision on the school uniform for students will be taken within the next week, Sukhu said. The dress requirements will cover teachers and students separately in the 150 CBSE government schools across Himachal Pradesh under the initiative.1,200 teachers appointed in CBSE schoolsSukhu said around 1,200 teachers had already been appointed in the CBSE schools and more teachers would be recruited in the coming time. He said the state government was committed to providing quality education through these schools, particularly for children in rural areas across Himachal.Rs 80 crore allocated for school improvementsThe government will provide an additional Rs 80 crore for further improvements in the CBSE schools and for strengthening facilities available to students and teachers. The allocation was announced during the Education department meeting chaired by Sukhu in Shimla on Tuesday during discussions on school.Sukhu said the government was committed to ensuring that children, particularly those studying in rural areas, have access to quality education close to their homes. He said the initiative would support educational facilities and improve the functioning of the CBSE schools across the state further there.The chief minister directed the Education department to ensure effective implementation of the measures and continuous improvement in the functioning and facilities of the CBSE schools. The department was asked to focus on operations, staffing, attendance procedures and facilities for students and teachers.The state government said the initiative was intended to create a better educational environment and ensure that students in rural areas receive quality education at their doorsteps. Sukhu also called for continuous improvement in school functioning and facilities as the measures are implemented across all 150 CBSE schools.(With inputs from PTI)
