Inside Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth's 4000 sq feet home in Chennai which is all things whimsical, poetic, romantic, bedroom has floral motifs

Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth, who got married in 2024, recently offered an intimate glimpse into their Chennai home, describing it as “expansive but intimate” and carefully designed around comfort, personality and timeless aesthetics. The apartment features large windows that allow natural light to filter in, along with expansive balconies that offer sweeping views of the city. For Siddharth, the home carries an added emotional significance. He grew up in the same neighbourhood, and his mother still lives just a few minutes away. The couple took Architectural Digest India on a tour of their 4,000-square-foot residence, located on the 18th floor of a building in Chennai. For Aditi, creating the space was about achieving a sense of peace and making sure the interiors did not simply follow passing trends. She wanted the home to have an enduring quality while ensuring that every room had its own distinct personality.“This is my first home, my own home… Okay, our home. So this is our first home so that in itself is very special,” Aditi shared with Architectural Digest India.Explaining her approach to decorating the house, she said, “I gravitate towards things that I find beautiful and lastingly beautiful, timelessly beautiful. I don’t know what’s in trend, I don’t know what is cool. I just know, to me, what I find instinctively beautiful. I wanted every room to have a mood and a vibe and a feeling of its own and a wholeness of its own.”Aditi also revealed that she wanted the interiors to carry a sense of fantasy and emotion, describing the elements she chose as “whimsical, poetic, romantic.”Siddharth’s preferences, meanwhile, lean towards vintage aesthetics. He revealed that his fondness for older, more characterful objects extends beyond his wardrobe and into the design of their home.“I don’t like new things,” he said.Rather than rushing to complete the interiors, the couple took their time deciding what belonged in the house and how different pieces would work together. Siddharth said they were deliberate about the process and patient when it came to making choices. He also explained why the size and layout of the apartment appealed to him. For Siddharth, a home should have enough space to create visual depth without becoming so large that it loses its sense of warmth.“I don’t like houses that are so large that they look like venues or like convention centers. I also don’t like houses small enough where there’s no throw. For me, throw is a definition where if I sit in one part of the house and look, I need to see depth of field. I need to see different exposures of light. I need to see different breaks of colour and pattern and structure, which I get in this apartment and I am very grateful for it. If I don’t have it, I make my displeasure very well known.”One of the most distinctive spaces in the home is the couple’s bedroom, which features floral and berry motifs across the walls, giving the room the appearance of an indoor garden.“I love our bedroom. To me, it’s like a garden, and I am surrounded by these flowers. It’s poetic but it’s so gentle and it’s so beautiful,” Aditi said.Siddharth added a playful note while describing the floral-themed room, saying he needs to embrace his softer side to truly appreciate its aesthetic. He said he is “very much in touch with my feminine side. It’s a room full of flowers and berries.”The couple also have a home in Mumbai, but their Chennai residence holds a particularly personal place in their lives, given Siddharth’s connection to the neighbourhood and the sense of calm Aditi wanted the home to embody.
