James Cameron was quite dedicated to building the home he wanted when he bought a 100-acre property in 1999. The filmmaker bought the space to create his own sustainable home; however, unlike other celebrity houses that take two to three years to make, Cameron took his time with the property, and the home was finalised over the course of 24 years! Here is a look into the beloved actor’s Southern California home.

About James Cameron’s 100-acre home

Forbes reported that the actor invested a whopping USD 4.4 million to buy the 100-acre property years ago. Known as Tranquillity Base, the home sits atop scenic hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. His property is located within Hollister Ranch, which in itself spans 14,400 acres. The space is a gated residential community located in Santa Barbara County. James Cameron isn’t the only A-Lister living in the county; Jackson Browne, James Arness, and Yvon Chouinard, among many others, also own property there. The property also offers residents views and access to private beaches and hiking trails.

More about James Cameron’s main residence

The main house on his property itself spans 8,000 square feet and consists of interconnected structures. The entire space was designed by Hollister Ranch builder Bob Curtis. During the interview with the outlet, Cameron opened up about the property and shared, “It feels rural, but it’s also quite bold, architecturally. It’s very comfortable. It’s not precious.” The entire home is filled to the brim with Balinese and Indonesian-inspired furnishings to add a touch of culture to the modern home. He also shared that there is a Dionysus head in the living room that he got from a New York hotel.

During the interview, he also revealed that the upper library area was his sanctuary and the entire home became a place of inspiration. The house was also the birthplace of the ‘Avatar’ stories, since this is where Cameron wrote the scripts for the billion-dollar films. The separate 2,000-square-foot guest house became another secluded workspace for Cameron while he worked on his films. The star also opted to keep his home sustainable and green and had solar panels installed to save energy. He also had a 24,000-square-foot barn area that he used to store helicopters, submarines, and robotic equipment for expeditions. There is also a tennis court and a helipad on his property, along with paddocks and ranch offices.
