‘Haiwaan’ box office collection day 5: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan's film fails to grow, remains flat at Rs 70 lakh on Tuesday

‘Haiwaan’, featuring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, reached theatres on September 11 but has not gained traction at the box office. The film, an official Hindi remake of Priyadarshan’s 2016 Malayalam action-crime thriller, ‘Oppam’. Since its release, ‘Haiwaan’ has drawn largely mixed-to-negative reviews from both critics and viewers, a factor weighing on its box office run.

Haiwaan’s day 5 collections stay flat

According to Sacnilk, ‘Haiwaan’ brought in a reported Rs 70 lakh net in India on Day 5 across 2,976 shows, holding steady from the Rs 70 lakh it made on Day 4. This takes the film’s overall India net collection to Rs 8.75 crore, with its India gross now at Rs 10.46 crore. Overseas markets added Rs 15 lakh on Day 5, pushing the total overseas gross to Rs 3.15 crore. Combined, Haiwaan’s worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 13.61 crore so far.Haiwaan’s budget vs its collectionsThe makers have kept the budget under wraps, but industry estimates put the production cost at around Rs 100-115 crore (add source). Measured against that figure, the collections so far mean Day 5 falls short of being a solid performance. Closing the gap will require a considerable rise in daily numbers along with consistent momentum in the days ahead.

Haiwaan’s cast and crew

Priyadarshan both co-wrote and directed the film. The cast includes Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Saiyami Kher alongside the leads. ‘Haiwaan’ is the seventh film starring Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar together on screen. Before ‘Haiwaan’, Saif and Akshay’s last film together was ‘Tashan’, the 2007 action comedy directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya.
