Prabhas starrer ‘Fauzi’ faces historical controversy as Netaji’s grandnephew Chandrakumar Bose questions glimpse featuring Subhas Chandra Bose and Adolf Hitler, demands apology from Hanu Raghavapudi

Prabhas’ upcoming period drama ‘Fauzi’ has landed in controversy after a glimpse featuring freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose and German dictator Adolf Hitler drew objections from Netaji’s grandnephew, Chandrakumar Bose. Questioning the portrayal of the historical figures, Chandrakumar has reportedly demanded an apology from director Hanu Raghavapudi and the film’s makers. The controversy has reignited the debate around historical accuracy and creative freedom in films depicting India’s independence struggle.

Chandrakumar Bose objects to Netaji’s portrayal in Prabhas’ ‘Fauzi’

According to Filmibeat, Chandrakumar Bose has strongly objected to the conversation between Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Adolf Hitler depicted in the ‘Fauzi’ glimpse. He reportedly argued that the scene distorts historical facts and does not portray the freedom fighter in the appropriate light.“In my opinion, distorting facts related to national heroes and resorting to fiction is a crime,” Chandrakumar Bose said. He also demanded an apology from director Hanu Raghavapudi and the film’s makers, arguing that fictional elements should not undermine the image of leaders who played a crucial role in India’s freedom movement. The controversy follows the release of the ‘Fauzi’ glimpse on October 23, coinciding with Prabhas’ birthday. Set during British rule in India, the film is expected to explore events linked to the country’s struggle for independence. Addressing the historical context of Netaji’s meeting with Hitler, Chandrakumar Bose said, “Netaji believed that Germany’s Hitler and Japan’s Hideki Tojo could support India’s freedom movement at that time.”While acknowledging filmmakers’ freedom to tell stories about India’s independence struggle, Chandrakumar Bose stressed that creative liberty should not come at the expense of historical accuracy. He also expressed concern that fictional elements in a film should not damage the image of leaders who played a significant role in the country’s freedom movement.Chandrakumar Bose has reportedly called on Hanu Raghavapudi and the film’s makers to apologise over the portrayal. The objections have brought the historical representation in ‘Fauzi’ into focus even as anticipation around the Prabhas-starrer continues to build.
