ICC reprimands Indian cricketer for throwing ball in 'dangerous manner' ahead of IND vs ENG 2nd ODI

India fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been officially warned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England on Tuesday. The incident happened in the eighth over of England’s innings when Brar collected the ball after his delivery and threw it towards England batter Ben Duckett.Match officials ruled that the throw was “inappropriate and dangerous.”Along with the warning, Brar received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. The charge was brought by the on-field umpires, along with the third and fourth umpires, under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule relates to “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and or dangerous manner during an international match”.A Level 1 offence can result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. If a player collects four or more demerit points within 24 months, those are converted into suspension points, which can lead to a ban. Two suspension points equal a suspension for one Test or two ODIs or T20Is, depending on which format comes first. Demerit points are removed from a player’s record after 24 months.Despite the disciplinary action, Brar impressed with the ball, taking two wickets as India secured a six-wicket victory over England to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The teams are set to meet again in the second ODI in Cardiff on Thursday.“Brar admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing,” the ICC said on Thursday.

Do you believe the ICC action will deter players from similar behavior in the future?
