Stock market today: BSE Sensex adds over 500 points in opening trade, Nifty50 soars above 24,550

Benchmark indices open August on a firm note, extending the positive momentum seen in the previous session. BSE Sensex climbed 551.13 points, or 0.71 per cent, to trade at 78,645.77, while NSE Nifty 50 gained 168.45 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 24,552.05 in early trade.

The upbeat start came as investors took comfort from easing crude oil prices and improving global sentiment after fresh diplomatic developments in the Middle East.

Market participants also remained focused on the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy meeting and the ongoing June-quarter earnings season, with several heavyweight companies set to announce their results. Foreign investor inflows, which turned positive in July after months of selling, also continued to support market sentiment.
