Educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut and Ghaziabad will remain closed till August 12 due to the heavy movement of Kanwar pilgrims during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.The district administrations have taken the decision to ensure the safety of students and help manage traffic as a large number of devotees pass through both districts during the Shravan period.
Meerut schools, colleges closed till August 12
In Meerut, all schools, colleges, universities and technical institutions have remained closed from August 3 following an order issued by the district administration.The closure applies to students from Classes 1 to 12, including institutions affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), Uttar Pradesh Board, Basic Shiksha Parishad, madrassa board and other recognised boards.Government and private colleges, universities and technical institutions have also been directed to suspend classes till August 12.
Ghaziabad announces closure from August 4
The Ghaziabad administration has ordered all schools, colleges, universities and technical institutions to remain closed from August 4 to August 12.The order covers schools from nursery to Class 12, including those affiliated with the Basic Education Board, Uttar Pradesh Board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), madrassa board and other recognised boards.According to the administration, the decision has been taken because a large number of Kanwar pilgrims are travelling through the district, making it necessary to prioritise students’ safety.
Examinations will continue as scheduled
Both district administrations have clarified that the closure order will not affect examinations.Any examinations that have already been scheduled by schools, colleges or universities will be conducted according to the existing timetable. Students appearing for examinations should follow the instructions issued by their respective institutions.
Reason for the closure
The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage held during the holy month of Shravan. During the yatra, devotees of Lord Shiva collect holy Ganga water, usually from Haridwar and other sacred places, and carry it on foot to offer at Shiva temples.As the number of pilgrims has increased in Meerut and Ghaziabad, authorities have imposed the temporary closure of educational institutions to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.The administrations have directed all educational institutions and concerned departments to strictly follow the closure orders until August 12.
