More investors coming from beyond India’s biggest states

The expansion of the investor base has not been limited to the country’s largest states. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal and Rajasthan together accounted for 47.6% of India’s investors. However, states outside the top 10 have increased their share of the investor pool. They accounted for 26.9% of total investors in June 2026, compared with around 22% in FY17.The NSE findings noted that “The investor base is gradually expanding beyond traditional large states” as “India’s investor base is becoming younger and more diverse.”Regional participation also showed differences across the country.
