Imran Khan reveals Bhumi Pednekar was once an assistant on 'Rishta.com', opens up on casting her in his comeback film 'Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum' - EXCLUSIVE

Years after stepping away from films, Imran Khan is all set to make his comeback with ‘Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum’, directed by Danish Aslam, who previously helmed the Imran Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Break Ke Baad’. Imran was last seen in ‘Katti Batti’ opposite Kangana Ranaut in 2015. In a recent interview with ETimes, the ‘Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na’ actor spoke about his break from acting, mental health, separation from wife Avantika Malik, and his comeback film. During the conversation, he also shared an interesting anecdote about Bhumi Pednekar‘s connection to ‘Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum’.While discussing Imran’s cameo in Vir Das and Kavi Shastri’s directorial ‘Happy Patel’, the conversation shifted to Kavi’s popular show ‘Rishta.com’, produced under YRF’s Y Films banner. Recalling the show’s connection to his upcoming film, Imran said, “Rishta.com is a fascinating little side table because it directed by Rishab Seth who is Shruti Seth’s brother. Shruti is married to Danish Aslam so I’m friends with all of them. Interestingly and I found this out later that Bhumi was an assistant on Rishta and it was early days for her at YRF before she started acting. She knows Rishab, Shruti, Danish from back then and now we found ourselves working together on a new film.”Speaking about how ‘Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum’ came together, Imran shared, “This one is directed by Danish and we remained friends after ‘Break Ke Baad’. The process of making that film was such a joy and the actor-director relationship was so positive. I called him and said listen let’s do something together because I know his sensibilities and a sense of my own creative drive about what I was feeling like doing and exploring. So we started up a conversation and we kind of pieced together. I gave him a basic idea which I wanted to explore and had on my mind and he took months to write the screenplay on it as he also loved the idea. We approached uh Netflix to make the film because I wanted to co-produce the film. From fairly early on Dhanish and I kind of had a sense that we wanted Bhumi for the film.”In this same interview, Imran also opened up about why he chose to take a long break from acting, explaining that financial security allowed him to prioritise personal fulfilment over stardom.“Speaking purely for myself, from sitting in a place of very comfortable privilege. From a very young age, I was fortunate enough that I was making good money in movies. I was financially very secure, very comfortable — I still am, so I was not in a position where a paycheck was crucial or relevant. I had more than enough to live comfortably. So that is not a driving factor for employment. For someone else, certainly it is, but not for me. I also, by that point, had had enough of a taste of it to understand that stardom did not excite me. Whatever that ephemeral thing is, the excitement of celebrity or fame, is not interesting or intoxicating for me.”
