R. Madhavan leads the period drama

Madhavan plays G. D. Naidu in the film. The story also examines his approach towards innovation. The film begins with a discussion about whether Naidu deserves a place in school textbooks. A committee debates his contribution and historical significance. The sequence establishes the film’s attempt to bring his achievements to a wider audience.

ETimes gives ‘GDN’ a mixed assessment

ETimes reviewed GDN and examined its period recreation, technical aspects and treatment of Naidu’s character. Our exclusive review read, “The period recreation is patchier: a heavy colour grade flattens the Coimbatore of the 1930s and 40s into one continuous sepia mood, and the film could have done without the couple of AI-generated shots that yank you right out of the era.Govind Vasantha’s score and Arvind Kamalanathan’s cinematography serve the proceedings capably throughout. Naidu’s instinct was to take apart whatever he admired to see how it worked. The film admires him too much to try it.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and the data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
