Rosario Dawson reveals she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day but was ultimately cut from the film, leaving her mother disappointed that she couldn’t share the BTS photos.

Rosario Dawson has revealed that she was originally supposed to appear in Tom Holland and Zendaya starrer Spider-Man: Brand New Day but was ultimately cut from the film. The actress made the revelation during a 2026 GalaxyCon panel with Vincent D’Onofrio in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she spoke about her long-standing connection to Marvel and her hopes of reprising her fan-favourite role as Claire Temple. When asked which superhero she would like to work with, Dawson said she could have named Spider-Man, before revealing that she had actually filmed a scene for the latest film.“Well, I’m gonna have to say I could have said Spider-Man. I even shot the scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out,” Dawson said.

Rosario Dawson jokes about her mother’s reaction

Dawson recalled telling her mother that she had been cut from the movie, but said her mother’s biggest disappointment was that she could no longer share the behind-the-scenes pictures.“I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the pictures.’ And I was like, ‘Right, Mom, me being cut out of the movie that has like the largest viewership of a trailer ever and the issue is you can’t post your BTS photos,’” she recalled. The actress said she had already been excited about sharing photographs from the project, particularly because of her family’s connection to Spider-Man.

Dawson has a special connection to Spider-Man

Dawson explained that Spider-Man has always held a special place in her life because her uncle is a comic book artist and the superhero was the first character he learned to draw.“Spider-Man is really huge and people know that about me,” she said. She also pointed out an unexpected connection between the character and her own childhood. According to Dawson, a recent comic features a young Spider-Man attending PS19 on New York’s Lower East Side, the same elementary school she attended.“There’s a frame in one of the new comics that has young Spider-Man talking to Daredevil, and they made it that the young Spider-Man goes to PS19 in the Lower East Side, which is where I went to elementary school,” she said.Dawson added that she had even prepared a social media post featuring her behind-the-scenes material and her grandson dressed in Spider-Man merchandise because of his love for the character.“Then I got the email,” she said, referring to the news that her scene had been cut.

Rosario Dawson hopes to return as Claire Temple

Despite being removed from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Dawson remains hopeful that her Marvel character could return in the future.“Because everybody’s in it, it still means that my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that. So I hope I get to be Claire again,” she said.Dawson first entered the Marvel universe as nurse Claire Temple in the first season of Daredevil in 2015. She subsequently reprised the role in Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, becoming a key connective character across Marvel’s early Netflix series.
