MUMBAI : Tata Power and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) have signed a Master Research Agreement (MRA) to jointly accelerate the development, scaling and commercialization of next-generation energy technologies and clean energy solutions.The agreement was signed at the IIT Bombay campus by Tata Power CEO and Managing Director Dr Praveer Sinha and Prof. Shrikrishna V. Kulkarni, Dean (Research & Development), IIT Bombay, in the presence of IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare.The collaboration aims to combine IIT Bombay’s research capabilities with Tata Power’s industry expertise to develop scalable solutions in areas including smart grids, power electronics, energy storage, electric mobility, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence for power systems, digital grid technologies, carbon capture and the circular economy.Officials said the partnership is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial deployment, helping bring innovative technologies to market faster. The initiative is expected to support India’s clean energy transition, strengthen energy security and contribute to sustainable development goals.Dr Sinha said the collaboration would help develop future-ready energy technologies by combining cutting-edge research with large-scale implementation expertise. “We aim to create a more resilient, secure, intelligent and sustainable power ecosystem for India,” he said.Prof. Kedare said India’s energy transition requires not only scientific breakthroughs but also their translation into reliable and scalable technologies. He noted that the partnership would help accelerate the development of indigenous solutions, strengthen energy security, support decarbonization efforts and contribute to building a future-ready power grid.The agreement marks the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership between academia and industry in the clean energy sector.
