NEW DELHI: Govt has approved another 31 applications, involving proposed additional investments of Rs 7,877 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, or ECMS. The projects will manufacture products, including printed circuit boards, camera modules, optical transceivers, electronic enclosures and materials used to make components.Facilities being set up by Kaynes Technology, Dixon Technologies, Wipro and Motherson are expected to begin operations over the next few months, electronics and IT secretary S Krishnan told reporters.Krishnan said work had started on several approved projects, with some facilities now nearing the production stage. Govt has worked to accelerate project approvals and ensure that companies commence production quickly, he added. “The writing is literally on the wall in terms of the projects grounded, work commenced, and where production in the electronic sector is truly picking up.”The ECMS was notified in April 2025 with an incentive outlay of Rs 22,919 crore. Govt later raised the allocation to Rs 40,000 crore after the scheme received strong interest from Indian and global manufacturers.The ECMS has so far attracted approvals for 106 proposals spanning nearly 30 product segments and 15 states. Together, these projects have committed Rs 69,548 crore in investment, already exceeding the programme’s initial target of Rs 59,350 crore.Krishnan revealed that Kaynes is expanding its capabilities in printed circuit boards and associated materials. Dixon is investing in components used across smartphones and other electronic products in Noida, while Wipro’s approved project will manufacture laminates, a key base material for printed circuit boards. Motherson is investing near Chennai in enclosures used in mobile phones, IT hardware and related devices.
