Elon Musk takes a swipe at Tom Holland, calls him a ‘cuck’ over The Odyssey, sparks confusion over the Spider-Man actor

Elon Musk has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after insulting historian Tom Holland over his praise for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming film The Odyssey. The billionaire’s post quickly sparked confusion online, with many initially believing he was referring to actor Tom Holland, who stars in the film.Responding to a post that quoted the historian’s positive review of The Odyssey, Musk wrote on X, “Tom Holland is such a cuck.”Historian Tom Holland, author of Dynasty: The Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar, had shared the glowing review of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation.“More praise for The Odyssey from people who, shockingly, have actually waited to see it before giving their opinion,” Holland wrote. In another post, he praised the film even further.“Lots of people telling me The Odyssey is a terrible film on the basis of not having seen it. FWIW, I’ve now watched it twice, and it is by some way the best cinematic adaptation of a Greek myth I have ever seen. It honours Homer while simultaneously making something new of him.”Musk’s response insulting Holland quickly went viral.

Fans confused over which Tom Holland Musk meant

Because Tom Holland, best known for playing Spider-Man, also appears in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, many social media users assumed Musk was attacking the actor. The confusion triggered a wave of memes and jokes, while others questioned why Musk appeared so critical of a film that has yet to be released widely. Some users also criticised the billionaire for attacking a movie he had not watched.

Historian Tom Holland hits back

The historian later responded directly to Musk’s criticism, standing by his review.“Very happy to say it again. The Odyssey is an amazing film, and missing out on seeing it because you think it’s woke or whatever is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Your loss.”He later attempted to end the debate, writing, “My last comment on this whole business, which I hadn’t realised was a lightning rod for an entire culture war. If you like Nolan’s other films, you will love The Odyssey. If you didn’t like them, then miss it.”Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is set for release on July 17, has already generated significant discussion online, with some conservative commentators criticising aspects of its casting, including Lupita Nyong’o portraying Helen of Troy.
