Rhiya Ahir, also known as Rhiya Ekousiya, is a 27-year-old Mumbai-based fashion model, actor and entrepreneur who has recently drawn nationwide attention after a dramatic incident during student protests in July 2026. A video showing her standing in front of a Mumbai Police van carrying detained student protesters went viral on social media, turning her into one of the most recognisable faces associated with the protest movement.However, contrary to some claims circulating online, Rhiya Ahir was not present at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and was not a NEET aspirant. The incident that brought her into the spotlight took place at Shivaji Park in Mumbai during a solidarity rally linked to the wider student protests against alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks.

Rhiya Ahir education qualification
Ahir completed her schooling in Mumbai and initially studied Psychology at Sathaye College. However, she did not complete that degree as she began receiving modelling and acting opportunities.She is currently pursuing an English Literature degree through distance education from the University of Mumbai. Besides her academic studies, she has undergone around 13 years of formal theatre training, which has contributed to her work in acting, modelling and anchoring.

What does Rhiya Ahir do?
Ahir works as a fashion model, actor and anchor and has appeared in advertisements, dance projects and independent music videos. Her recent projects include the music video Dilbara, released in early 2025.She is also an entrepreneur. Ahir founded Rhiyasat, a luxury handcrafted apparel label that works with Indian artisans and promotes locally crafted clothing.

Why did Rhiya Ahir become famous?
On July 22, 2026, during a solidarity protest in Mumbai, Ahir reportedly encountered a police van carrying detained student demonstrators. She stepped in front of the vehicle and refused to move, demanding that the students be released.The confrontation, which reportedly continued for around 40 minutes in the rain, was captured on video and widely shared online. The image of Ahir standing in front of the police vehicle became one of the defining visuals of the protests.Following the incident, she also faced online trolling and alleged threats. She subsequently approached the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office, seeking action against online harassment and raising concerns related to protest cases.Her sudden rise to prominence has since brought renewed attention to her background, education, modelling career and entrepreneurial work.
