'Batwara 1947' box office collection ay 7: The Sunny Deol film clocks in Rs 33 crore by the end of first week, likely to suffer a loss of 66.7 percent on its investment

Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s period drama ‘Batwara 1947’ has had a disappointing first week at the box office. The film has completed seven days in theatres without showing any signs of a turnaround, making its underwhelming performance a major setback for the makers and the industry. Despite the anticipation surrounding Sunny Deol’s return to the period-drama genre, the Partition-based film has struggled to connect with audiences and has witnessed a steady decline in collections after its opening weekend. As per Sacnilk, ‘Batwara 1947’ opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Friday. The film registered a significant jump the following day, collecting Rs 13.50 crore on Saturday. However, the momentum did not last, as Sunday saw collections fall to Rs 7.25 crore. The day’s earnings were around 22 percent lower than Saturday, despite the film continuing to draw audiences. The downward trend continued after the weekend. On Monday, the film earned Rs 2 crore. Tuesday brought a small respite, with collections rising to Rs 2.25 crore, marking a 12.5 percent increase compared to Monday. The marginal growth came despite the film being screened across 6,608 shows, with discounted ticket prices at several multiplexes on Tuesday likely giving the numbers a slight push. However, the film could not sustain the Tuesday growth. On Wednesday, day six, ‘Batwara 1947’ witnessed another 16 percent drop, collecting just Rs 1.4 crore. The decline continued on Thursday, with the film earning Rs 1.3 crore on day seven. With this, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial has managed to collect only Rs 33.60 crore during its first week at the box office. The film’s weak performance has been further overshadowed by Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’, which has quickly emerged as the audience’s preferred choice.Made on a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, ‘Batwara 1947’ is staring at a substantial loss and could reportedly end up losing around Rs 80 crore if its box office run continues at the current pace.
