The festival has unveiled the film’s trailer, offering the first detailed glimpse into the story and its central character.Directed by debut filmmaker Sailesh Rathnakumar, ‘Selvi’ has been selected for the Vision – Asia section of the festival, marking an important international platform for the Indian independent film.

Anjali Patil’s ‘Selvi’ explores migration, caregiving and survival

Speaking about the film, Anjali Patil said, “Migration and caregiving are two subjects that the world has been discussing at length. People move across borders in search of work and dignity, while caregivers often become the backbone of families and communities, carrying emotional and physical responsibilities that remain largely unseen.”She added that ‘Selvi’ brings an Indian perspective to conversations with global relevance. “This is a story rooted in our realities, our people and our lived experiences, but the questions it raises about migration, care, labour, dignity and survival belong to the world,” she said.

‘Selvi’ heads to Busan with a strong creative team behind it

The film features a strong technical and acting team alongside Anjali Patil. Veteran editor A. Sreekar Prasad has handled the editing, while Bargav Sridhar has co-written and shot the film. Anand Krishnamoorthi has designed the sound, with music composed by Suren Vikhash.The cast also includes Vinoth Kishan, Swathy Krishnan, Raja Krishnamoorty, Archana Padmini and Mekha Rajan.With its trailer now unveiled, ‘Selvi’ has generated curiosity around its quiet yet layered story. The film’s selection at Busan also puts the spotlight on a Tamil drama that aims to tell a deeply local story while addressing themes that can resonate with audiences across the world.
