Jason Sanjay is currently in the spotlight ahead of the release of his directorial debut ‘Sigma,’ but his latest comments have also offered a glimpse into his childhood memories with father Vijay’s films. Speaking during the promotions of ‘Sigma,’ the young filmmaker recalled how closely he followed his father’s movies while growing up. He also spoke about his interest in acting and revealed the kind of role he would want to take up if he makes his acting debut in the future.
Jason Sanjay recalls Vijay’s Pokkiri and his childhood memories
Talking about Vijay’s films in a YouTube chat with FilterCopy Enga Area, Jason Sanjay said, “I watched Appa’s films a lot during my childhood. Pokkiri is the one I watched the most. It came during Pongal. One side was his film, and the other side was Ajith Sir’s film. It was amazing. More than the action, I loved the costumes he wore. I would wear similar ones and take pictures. Even the hairstyle too… the funk.” His memories show how Vijay’s on-screen style influenced him from a young age, beyond just the films themselves.
Jason Sanjay says he wants to act but has no specific director in mind
Jason Sanjay was also asked whether he would consider acting in a film. He confirmed that it is something he would like to explore at some point. “Yes, I will act in a film in the future,” he said. When asked which director he would like to make his acting debut under, Jason replied, “I don’t have any specific director in mind. It’s all about the story and the character. The character should be comfortable for me to play, because it is my first film, and I want to see myself in that character.” He was also asked which Vijay film he would like to revisit as a sequel. Jason Sanjay said, “I would like to direct ‘Badri 2.’ There is a Sigma feeling in that film.”
Jason Sanjay reveals Dulquer Salmaan was his first choice for ‘Sigma’
Jason Sanjay also revealed that Dulquer Salmaan was among the first actors he approached for Sigma. Recalling their meeting in Chennai, he said, “First, I narrated my Sigma story to Dulquer Salmaan sir when he was in Chennai. I got the opportunity to meet him, and at that time, I wasn’t sure whether he knew me or whether he would have dates available to shoot the film.” He added, “I really like his films and admire his choice of scripts. I narrated the story to him for almost two hours. After that, we had a great conversation, and he gave me a lot of valuable feedback. He was interested in doing the film, but unfortunately, he didn’t have the dates at that time. I’m confident that I will work with him in the future.”
About ‘Sigma’
‘Sigma,’ starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah, is scheduled to release on October 2. The film is presented as an action-adventure heist entertainer and marks Jason Sanjay’s first feature as a director. With his debut film nearing release, his comments about Vijay, his own acting plans, and a possible future collaboration with Dulquer Salmaan show that the filmmaker is already looking beyond his first project.
