'Wherever I go, they call me Rajan mon': 'Toxic' actor Sudev Nair says Mammootty's ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ made him popular among malayalis
‘Wherever I go, they call me Rajan mon’.

Actor Sudev Nair has credited filmmaker Amal Neerad’s ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ with expanding his popularity among Malayalam audiences. The actor, who played Rajan Mon in the Mammootty-starrer, said the character continues to be recognised by Malayalis wherever he goes. During an interview with Club FM, Sudev also explained why the film’s director has become someone many actors want to work with.

‘Bheeshma Parvam’ gave Sudev Nair wider recognition

Sudev Nair said his role as Rajan Mon helped him reach audiences beyond the urban circles familiar with his earlier work. He identified ‘Ezra’ and ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ as two important projects that shaped his identity among Malayalam filmgoers.“It’s no wonder everyone wants to work with Amal Neerad. The character Rajan Mon in ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ earned me a lot of acceptance in Malayalam cinema. I have two or three identities in Malayalam. One is ‘Ezra’, and the other is Rajan Mon from ‘Bheeshma Parvam’. Wherever I go, if there are Malayalis around, they call me Rajan Mon. The reach of ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ is tremendous. Before that, I had an urban reach. Because of Mammootty’s reach, that changed. More people came to know me,” Sudev said.

Actor says his performance was not different

Sudev explained that he did not approach Rajan Mon with a dramatically different performance style. He said his work on ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ followed the same approach he had taken with his other films. However, he believed the director’s presentation and the film’s technical aspects helped the character connect with viewers.“As a performer, I haven’t done anything particularly different. I worked on this film just as I have worked on all my other films. But when Amal Neerad’s presentation, framing, background music and the way I was positioned alongside Mammootty come together, the audience naturally develops a connection. That is a matter of luck,” Sudev said.
