October’s full moon arrives late this year. And it lands during one of the busiest weekends in the 2026 sky.
When Is the Hunter’s Moon 2026 ?
The Hunter’s Moon reaches its peak on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 12:12 a.m. EDT.West of the East Coast, it actually happens on Sunday night. Chicago sees it at 11:12 p.m. CDT. Denver hits peak at 10:12 p.m. MDT, and Los Angeles gets it at 9:12 p.m. PDT.Don’t stress about catching the exact minute. The Moon looks full to the naked eye for about a day on either side, so both Sunday and Monday evening work well for viewing. Look east around sunset.
Why Is It Called the Hunter’s Moon?
This is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. Long ago, once crops were cleared, deer and other game were easier to spot across the bare fields. Hunters used the bright moonlight to track animals well into the evening and store meat before winter. Some calendars also call it the Falling Leaves Moon or the Dying Grass Moon. Pretty fitting for late October.
The Astrology: A Full Moon in Taurus
In Western astrology, this full moon falls in Taurus, with the Sun sitting opposite in Scorpio. That’s a tug-of-war between two very different needs. Taurus wants comfort and a full bank account. Scorpio asks what you’re gripping too tightly. So the question this moon asks is simple. What are you holding on to only because it feels safe?Timing makes it stronger. Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio just before this full moon, while Venus has been retrograde since October 3. With two personal planets moving backward, old feelings and unfinished money business tend to float up. A Hunter’s Moon in the middle of that works like a spotlight.
What to Release Under This Moon
Start with money habits. Taurus rules finances, so take a hard look at the subscriptions you forgot about or that “small” weekly Amazon order that isn’t small anymore. Cancel one thing before Monday. Even one. Then think about possessions. The jacket you haven’t worn since 2022 is probably not coming back into style. Donate it.Emotional clutter counts too. Scorpio season stirs up grudges and jealousy, especially with Venus retrograde bringing exes and old friends back into view. You don’t need to send the long text. Just decide privately that you’re done carrying it.
A Simple Release Ritual
Write down what you want to let go of on a small piece of paper. Keep it honest and specific. “Stop checking my ex’s Instagram” works better than “move on.”On Sunday or Monday night, step outside where you can see the Moon. Read your list once, out loud or in your head. Then tear it up and throw it away, or burn it safely in a fire-proof bowl if you prefer. Some people like to leave a glass of water on the windowsill overnight to charge under the moonlight. Drink it the next morning or use it to water a plant.
Which Signs Feel It Most?
Taurus natives will feel this one in their bones, since the full moon lights up your own sign. Expect big realizations about self-worth.Scorpios, the Sun is in your sign, so relationships take center stage. Someone may finally say what they’ve been holding back. For Leo and Aquarius, this moon hits career and home. A decision about work or living arrangements could come to a head around the weekend.
