Veteran actress and classical dancer Shobana never fails to impress fans with her fitness and graceful appearance.At 56, the actress continues to stay active with regular dance performances while balancing her acting career. Shobana who will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, once shared the lifestyle habits that help her maintain her energy and health.Apart from films, Shobana also runs Kalatarpana, her dance academy in Chennai. She regularly performs at cultural events across India and abroad. Despite her busy schedule the actress follows a disciplined routine and carefully manages her diet to stay fit.

Protein shakes and dieting go hand in hand

Speaking in an earlier interaction, as quoted by Madhyamam website, Shobana revealed that she follows a combination of protein shakes and dieting. She admitted that many people are surprised by this approach, but said there is a simple reason behind it.“My routine includes protein shakes along with dieting. Many people ask me why I do both. The reason is that I’m always hungry,” she said.The actress explained that her eating habits are designed to support her demanding lifestyle. As someone who continues to perform classical dance on stage she believes maintaining the right balance between nutrition and diet is important.

No fixed diet plan throughout the year

Shobana also revealed that she does not stick to one diet plan all year. Instead, she changes her routine according to her body’s requirements and keeps a close watch on her weight.“Sometimes I follow a three-day diet, sometimes a seven-day diet, and at times I even go on a crash diet,” she shared.The actress said she adjusts her schedule whenever necessary instead of following a rigid meal plan.

Foods she avoids and the treats she still enjoys

The actress also spoke about the foods she has removed from her regular diet. According to Shobana, she avoids several popular comfort foods that are often high in calories and unhealthy fats.She said she stays away from pizza, burgers, pasta, bread, sandwiches, deep-fried food and red meat. However, she admitted that she still enjoys certain indulgences in moderation. Thai cuisine remains one of her favourites, and desserts continue to be among the treats she loves.

A celebrated career and her next big-screen outing

Shobana began her acting career in Tamil cinema in 1980 before making her Malayalam debut as a lead actor in ‘April 18’, directed by Balachandra Menon. Coming from a renowned family of performers, she carried forward the legacy of the legendary Travancore Sisters—Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini.The actress will next appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic ‘Ramayana’. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Shobana will portray Kaikesi, the mother of Ravana, in the multi-part adaptation.
