Kangana Ranaut defends 'generation gutter' remark, says NEET protest was not a 'Gen Z protest': 'More than half were Shabana Azmi-type people'
Kangana Ranaut says ‘Shabana Azmi-type people’ were at NEET protest: ‘How is it a Gen Z protest?’

Kangana Ranaut has once again defended her controversial “Generation Gutter” remark aimed at Gen Z and their protest that made headlines. The actress clarified that her comments were directed at a specific section of protesters at Jantar Mantar during the NEET-UG paper leak demonstration and not at the entire young generation of the country.

Kangana Ranaut questions the ‘Gen Z protest‘ tag

Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram Stories on Thursday to address the backlash, arguing that the protest could not be labelled a Gen-Z demonstration since people from other age groups were also present at the gathering. She said, “The youth of this country? If we speak of Gen Z, then the population is around 30–35 crore. Around 10,000 people were at Jantar Mantar, where more than half of them were Shabana Azmi-type people, so many age groups were present. If we specifically speak of Gen Z, then only 2,000 of them were present. So, how is it a Gen Z protest?”Kangana insisted her criticism was limited to the crowd that had assembled over the NEET-UG paper leak issue, and not Gen-Z as a collective. She added, “It was for the crowd which had gathered outside. I had specifically spoken about them. I am giving an open challenge to pick out any quote where I directed it at the entire generation. Don’t throw this useless agenda at me. I am not against the youth because I am one of them.

Kangana Ranaut’s work slate

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, directed by Manoj Tapadia and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut. The movie highlighted the true-to-life bravery of nurses and hospital staff who protected over 400 patients at Mumbai’s Cama Hospital during the 2008 26/11 terror attacks. It was released in theatres on June 12, 2026.
