Amitabh Bachchan reveals Jaya Bachchan called him 'Lambu ji’ for a few years: 'Phir Babuji ne unko manaa kiya'

Amitabh Bachchan recently shared an amusing anecdote about his early years of marriage to Jaya Bachchan, revealing that his late father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, once asked his wife to stop calling him ‘Lambu ji’. The nickname, which Jaya had used affectionately for years, apparently prompted an intervention from her father-in-law, who suggested she address her husband by his name or find another way of referring to him.The veteran actor recalled the incident while interacting with Ranbir Kapoor on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. Speaking about Jaya’s old nickname for him, Amitabh Bachchan revealed how his father eventually stepped in and asked her to change the way she addressed him.The megastar said, “Kayi saal tak woh humko lambu ji bola karti thi… ji, phir uske baad unko mana kiya gaya Babuji ne kaha ye dekho aise mat bolo ya to naam bolo ya kuch aur bolo to unhone phir naam bolna shuru kar diya…” (For many years, she used to call me Lambu ji. Later, she was asked not to address me that way. Babuji said, ‘Look, don’t call him that. Either use his name or call him something else.’ After that, she started calling me by my name). The conversation took a humorous turn when the two actors began discussing the height differences among members of the Bachchan family and Ranbir Kapoor’s family. Ranbir shared how he had often imagined what photographs featuring him, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and Jaya Bachchan would look like, considering their respective heights.Sharing his imagination, Ranbir said, “Aur mere zehan mein woh tasveer hamesha aati ki main Amit ji jaisa thoda lamba hoon aur Alia Jaya aunty jaisi thodi choti hai toh height differences bhi achhe lagenge un photo pe… main hamesha yeh bhi sochta tha…” (I would always picture it in my mind that I would be a little tall like Amit ji, and Alia would be a little short like Jaya aunty, so the height differences would look nice in those photographs… I always used to think about this).“Reacting to Ranbir’s observation, Amitabh Bachchan jokingly remarked, “Oho sar bahut zyada difference hai…” (Oh, there is a huge difference in height).”Ranbir then asked him about the actual height difference between him and Jaya Bachchan, saying, “Sir, aapka aapas mein difference kitna hai..” (Sir, what is the height difference between the two of you?)Amitabh Bachchan replied, “Sir, 6 foot 2 inch hai..” (Sir, I am 6 feet 2 inches tall). Speaking about Jaya Bachchan’s height, he added, “shayad 5 foot teen.. chaar…” (Perhaps 5 feet 3 or 4 inches). Ranbir then pointed out the similarity between his own height and the veteran actress’s, adding, “Toh mera bhi udhar heen kahi hai, Sir…” (Then mine is also somewhere around there, Sir).Ranbir was present on the show with Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey as they promoted their upcoming film ‘Ramayana’.
