MJ fans, this might come as a surprise. A musical collaboration between AR Rahman and Michael Jackson was once planned for a Rajinikanth film. Composer S Thaman has now revealed that the two music icons had even worked on the idea.The proposed track was intended for Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran’, directed by S Shankar. According to S Thaman, AR Rahman and Michael Jackson had met and designed the song together. The project, however, could not be completed after Michael Jackson’s death in June 2009.
S Thaman reveals AR Rahman and Michael Jackson’s plan
S Thaman discussed the proposed collaboration during his conversation with Honest Townhall. While speaking about international musical partnerships, he recalled the plans involving AR Rahman and Michael Jackson.The composer said the two had more than just preliminary discussions. They had reportedly met and worked on a song that was being developed specifically for Rajinikanth.“AR Rahman had actually planned a single with Michael Jackson. They met, they designed a song, both of them wanted to compose a song for Rajinikanth. He had signed the deal in May, but Michael Jackson died in June,” Thaman revealed.
Michael Jackson’s death changed the ‘Enthiran’ plan
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009. His death occurred months before the release of ‘Enthiran’, which arrived in theatres in October that year.S Shankar directed the science-fiction film, which featured Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles. AR Rahman composed the soundtrack for the movie. The movie turned out to be an all-time blockbuster.The album included several popular tracks, and most of the songs are still loved by the audiences.
Britney Spears was considered for ‘Game Changer’
S Thaman also recalled another international collaboration that was discussed for an Indian film. This time, the project involved Ram Charan and S Shankar’s ‘Game Changer’.According to the composer, the makers had explored the possibility of involving Britney Spears in the music. The plan was connected to the dance number ‘Dope’, which was part of the Ram Charan-starrer.There were also discussions about releasing an English-language international single alongside the movie. The proposal was eventually dropped after delays affected the film’s production and release plans.
S Thaman confirms talks with Hanumankind
The composer also revealed that another international collaboration is currently being discussed. S Thaman said he has already spoken with rapper Hanumankind about potentially working together.He did not disclose the film or project connected to the proposed collaboration. The composer also chose not to reveal details about the track at this stage.“I spoke with him already. So much talk is going on. I can’t say which film, but we are just waiting for the opportunity,” S Thaman said.

S Thaman’s latest musical work includes the single and soundtrack promotions for the upcoming Tamil film ‘Sigma’ directed by Jason Sanjay, son of actor and Thalapathy Vijay.‘Sigma’ is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026. S Thaman was also associated with the 2026 Tamil film ‘Idhayam Murali’ which received mixed reviews. Thaman’s most loved recent work was for the Pawan Kalyan starrer ‘OG’.
