Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s period drama ‘Batwara 1947’ is struggling to find its footing at the box office, with the film’s theatrical run turning increasingly disappointing. Even after completing more than a week in cinemas, the Partition-era drama has failed to generate sustained momentum, raising concerns over its eventual box office verdict.According to Sacnilk, ‘Batwara 1947’ opened with Rs. 5.75 crore on Friday before witnessing a major surge on Saturday. The film collected Rs. 13.50 crore on the second day, but the strong momentum could not be sustained. Sunday saw the collections drop to Rs. 7.25 crore, around 22 percent lower than Saturday.The decline became more pronounced during the weekdays. On Monday, ‘Batwara 1947’ earned Rs. 2 crore, followed by a marginal recovery on Tuesday. The film collected Rs. 2.25 crore on Tuesday, registering a 12.5 percent increase over Monday. The slight boost came despite the film being screened across 6,608 shows, with discounted ticket prices at several multiplexes on Tuesday likely contributing to the increase.However, the brief improvement did not translate into a sustained recovery. Wednesday, which marked Day 6, saw the film’s collections fall by another 16 percent to Rs. 1.40 crore. The downward trend continued on Thursday, when the film managed just Rs. 1.30 crore.The second weekend also failed to provide the much-needed turnaround. ‘Batwara 1947’ recorded its lowest collection on the second Friday, earning only Rs. 75 lakh. The film did witness a slight improvement over the next two days, collecting Rs. 1.15 crore on the second Saturday and Rs. 1.30 crore on the second Sunday.After 10 days in theatres, ‘Batwara 1947’ has collected Rs. 36.80 crore net in India, while its worldwide gross currently stands at Rs. 52.52 crore.The film’s weak performance is particularly concerning given its reported budget of Rs. 120 crore. For Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, ‘Batwara 1947’ could also become their second consecutive flop at the box office.To avoid a flop verdict, the film needs to recover more than 50 percent of its reported budget and reach the required benchmark for a losing verdict. However, with the film continuing to add collections at a sluggish pace, its chances of making a significant recovery appear increasingly slim.At its current rate, ‘Batwara 1947’ is heading towards a flop verdict, making its theatrical performance a major setback for the makers despite the anticipation surrounding Sunny Deol’s return to the period-drama genre.
