Dhanush has come out in strong support of his ‘OM’ co-star Sai Pallavi, lauding her sincerity and skill. Speaking at the film’s pre-release event, he said he cannot understand the debate over her casting as Sita in ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’, adding that no other actress in the country could have done the role justice.

Dhanush on the noise around Sita casting

According to the Hindustan Times report, Dhanush wished Sai Pallavi on the release of ‘Ramayana’, where she stars as Sita. Reacting to the ongoing chatter, he said, “There is so much noise around her portrayal of Sita. I don’t understand it. Even during shot breaks, she would be praying constantly. She is someone with such profound devotion to God, someone with such a pure heart. She looks so beautiful and she is a great performer.”

Dhanush recalls first meeting with Sai Pallavi

Dhanush spoke about their earlier association in ‘Maari 2’, when Sai was extremely reserved off camera and spoke very little. Nine years later, working with her again in ‘OM’, he found her almost unrecognisable in terms of confidence.“She stood there as if she totally mastered the art of cinema. In her poise, in her expressions, there was so much confidence. It was truly astonishing. Playing this role was not easy at all, but she bravely took the chance and did it so well,” he said.

Sai Pallavi’s role in ‘OM’

In the film, Sai plays Nithya Reddy, a CBI officer assigned to probe the illegal red sandalwood trade. The first glimpse of the film gave viewers a peek into her character’s past and the personal loss that fuels her investigation. This pulls her into the lives of the characters essayed by Dhanush and Mammootty.

About ‘Ramayana’

‘Ramayana’ is the latest screen adaptation of Valmiki’s epic, among the oldest works of literature in the world. It narrates the tale of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and his fight against the asura king Ravana, who abducts his wife, Sita.
