Dhyan Sreenivasan doesn’t want to be AMMA President but supports Shwetha Menon amid AMMA Row: ‘Leaving when problems arise is not the solution’

Actor Dhyan Sreenivasan has clarified his position on the ongoing discussions surrounding the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). After recently stating that he has no interest in becoming the organisation’s president, Dhyan has now elaborated on his remarks. The actor said that leadership positions within AMMA cannot change overnight through public opinion. He also stressed that the current office-bearers should focus on resolving existing issues rather than stepping down in the middle of their tenure. Dhyan further said that he personally hopes Shwetha Menon, the current AMMA president, completes her full three-year term.

Dhyan Sreenivasan says there is a proper process

As reported by Asianet News, speaking to media about how his name surfaced in discussions regarding the AMMA presidency, Dhyan said, “AMMA is an organisation with which my father had a deep emotional connection. I have only been a member for a few years. It was when Siddique ikka became president that I attended an AMMA event for the first time. I have acted with many members of the organisation and share close relationships with them. But there is a difference between personal relationships with members and the organisation itself. Naturally, when such issues arise within the organisation, we also feel sad. Many people suggest different solutions, and different groups express different opinions. Some people mentioned my name, and younger members like Aju’s as well. That’s all it is.”He further said, “Becoming president is not as simple as people saying my name. There is a proper process. I cannot decide today and become president tomorrow. At present, there is already an elected president whose term has not ended. The tenure is three years.”Dhyan made it clear that his name being mentioned by some members should not be interpreted as an indication that he intends to contest for the post.

Dhyan Sreenivasan says leaving when problems arise is not the solution

The actor also shared his views on how the current leadership should respond to the challenges facing the organisation. He said, “Leaving when problems arise is not the solution. The right approach is to solve the issues and complete the term properly. Only after that should we think about what comes next. My personal opinion does not matter here. What matters is whether the administration has failed in its responsibilities. Personal issues come second. Have they distributed pensions on time? Have they continued paying them every month? Have they provided Sanjeevani assistance? Have they provided insurance? If all these welfare measures have continued without interruption, then I believe the present committee should continue. The organisation exists for the welfare of its members. If there has been any failure in those responsibilities, then people can question it. Personal disputes are a separate matter. Those issues are already before the courts. If, however, the General Body no longer has confidence in the present committee, then they may have to step down.”According to Dhyan, the committee’s performance should primarily be judged on whether it has continued the welfare activities intended for AMMA members.Dhyan also spoke in support of Shwetha Menon, saying she entered office with the intention of introducing positive changes. He said, “Personally, I believe Shwetha chechi came in with a sincere desire to bring many positive changes. The very fact that a woman became president was itself a historic development. She genuinely wanted to do many good things. If there has been no failure in the welfare activities I mentioned earlier, then the issues between the members should have been resolved through discussion. Unfortunately, the matter escalated into legal cases and controversies. Let them deal with those issues.”“If Shwetha chechi is still willing to continue working for the organisation, then she should remain in office. A new committee will come after the three-year term ends. Interestingly, many of the people who elected the present committee are now opposing it. Whatever decision the General Body takes, we will support it. Personally, however, I want Shwetha chechi to complete her full term. She entered the role with genuine intentions of doing good for the organisation,” Dhyan added.

Focus should remain on members’ welfare

Dhyan maintained that the organisation should be evaluated based on how effectively it continues welfare initiatives such as pensions, financial assistance and insurance schemes. While acknowledging the controversies surrounding the association, the actor said those issues should be resolved through the appropriate channels. He reiterated that the General Body would have the final say on the future of the current leadership. For now, Dhyan has distanced himself from speculation about taking up the AMMA presidency. On the work front, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s previous hit was ‘Detective Ujjwalan’.
