British star Gary Oldman has made his pick for the next actor to play James Bond.Amid buzz about the casting for the coveted 007 role, Oldman shared his thoughts about the likely candidate to take on the role of the British spy. In his latest interview, the actor revealed that he has kept his fingers crossed for his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Jack Lowden to be chosen as the next Bond.

Speaking to Canada’s The Morning Show, Oldman claimed that the next Bond has already been selected, and he is hoping that it’s Lowden. “It’s been rumoured that (Lowden) is on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack,” Oldman said.

In the hit Apple TV drama series, Oldman plays Jackson Lamb and presides over Slough House, an MI5 unit where agents who commit blunders are sent. Lowden plays River Cartwright, a promising young MI5 agent who is shunted to Lamb’s unit after making a mistake during a public training exercise.

However, rumours of Lowden’s casting went viral last month, with reports indicating that he is the front-runner for the part, along with Jack Barton as a possible pick.Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the upcoming Bond film, with ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight writing the script for a new movie.Daniel Craig retired as Bond with his fifth and last outing in 2021’s ‘No Time to Die’. His other films as Bond were ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’, ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’.Sean Connery played the first Bond, based on the Ian Fleming’s novel, in ‘Dr No’ in 1962.
