Harry Brook has added another milestone to his remarkable run in 2026, becoming the only captain from a Full Member team to score two T20I centuries in a calendar year. The England captain reached the landmark during his unbeaten 114 against Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series in Southampton on Tuesday. Brook’s century came in just 42 balls, with his final score of 114 coming off 49 deliveries.

Brook joins elite company

Brook’s latest hundred puts him at the top of the list for most centuries as a captain in a calendar year across the three international formats for Full Member teams.Ricky Ponting holds the Test record after scoring seven centuries as captain in 2006, while Virat Kohli registered six ODI hundreds as captain in 2017 and 2018.In T20Is, Brook now stands alone with two centuries in 2026.The England skipper has also climbed into an exclusive list for most T20I centuries as captain. His two hundreds have come in just 23 innings, while Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam have three each in 62 and 78 innings respectively.

Brook’s stunning run continues

The century against Sri Lanka extended a remarkable sequence for Brook. His last three T20I innings have produced scores of 79* off 35 balls against India, 95* off 45 against India and 114* off 49 against Sri Lanka. That adds up to 288 runs at an average of infinity, with a strike rate of 223.25.Brook’s latest assault came after England had already made a blistering start. Jos Buttler, his predecessor as England’s white-ball captain, joined him for a 128-run partnership as the hosts posted 254.Buttler smashed 80 off 44 balls, while Brook’s unbeaten 114 formed the centrepiece of another dominant England batting display.

England cruise to 119-run victory

England’s batting had already put Sri Lanka under enormous pressure, and the hosts’ bowlers ensured there was little chance of a comeback.Sonny Baker made an immediate impact with 3/12, while Jamie Overton claimed two wickets. Baker’s pace proved particularly difficult for Sri Lanka to handle, and the visitors lost wickets regularly throughout the chase.Dunith Wellalage provided some resistance with a 33-run blitz, while Eshan Malinga added late runs, but Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out at the end of the 19th over.England completed a comprehensive 119-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. For Brook, however, the night belonged to another record, as his second T20I century of 2026 made him the only Full Member captain to achieve the feat in a calendar year.
