'Here we go': Carlos Alcaraz confirms US Open return after four-month injury layoff

Carlos Alcaraz will return to competitive tennis at the US Open later this month as he begins his comeback from a right wrist injury that has kept him out since April.“Here we go,” Alcaraz wrote on his social media accounts on Thursday, along with a picture of himself in front of the US Open logo.The seven-time Grand Slam champion confirmed that he will compete at the tournament, scheduled from August 30 to September 13. His absence had included the French Open, Wimbledon and the North American hard-court tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati.Alcaraz had initially planned to return at Cincinnati, where he was the defending champion, but decided to give his wrist more time to recover. He has gradually increased his workload in training and recently practised with Denmark’s Holger Rune in Murcia while testing his wrist at greater intensity.The Spaniard has been out since withdrawing from the Barcelona Open in April after winning his opening match because of the injury.Before the injury, Alcaraz had made a 22-3 start to the season. He won the Australian Open after claiming his second US Open title last year, when he beat Jannik Sinner in the final.Despite missing several tournaments, Alcaraz remains No. 2 in the ATP rankings.His return was also announced in the style of a football transfer by reporter Fabrizio Romano on Instagram. Romano posted “Here we go!” while confirming that Alcaraz would return at the US Open.New York has been an important venue in Alcaraz’s career. He won his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, becoming the youngest man to reach No. 1 in the ATP rankings at 19.Alcaraz will now return to the same tournament where he won his first major title and will look to defend his crown after missing more than four months of competition.
