Preity Zinta has opened up about the theatrical performance of ‘Batwara 1947’ following its underwhelming run at the box office. The film marked her return to acting after an eight-year hiatus. She shared the screen with Sunny Deol in the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial.The movie had generated considerable attention before its release. A major reason was the reunion of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi after nearly three decades. However, the film could not maintain the expected momentum during its theatrical run. Preity Zinta has now opened up about the experience. She acknowledged that an actor can only control the effort put into a project. The eventual box office outcome can depend on several factors beyond their control.“I am very proud of the film, and it’s a very overwhelming experience. And as an actor, I am always managing expectations. Once I am working, I put in my 100 per cent. As I said earlier, I believe in karam (deed). You do your karam and then leave the rest to god. You can’t control what happens. So, you work as hard as you can on every film; I give my 1000 per cent and then leave the rest to God,” Preity said in an interview with Mid-Day.

‘Batwara 1947’ opened with Rs 5.75 crore

‘Batwara 1947’ reached cinemas on August 14, 2026. The Sunny Deol starrer opened with Rs 5.75 crore on its first day. It then witnessed a substantial jump on Day 2. The film collected Rs 13.50 crore on Saturday. However, the momentum weakened on the third day. Sunday brought in Rs 7.25 crore. The first Monday saw another sharp decline. The film earned Rs 2 crore on Day 4. According to Sacnilk, ‘Batwara 1947’ eventually finished its opening week with Rs 33.60 crore.

Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi reunite

The film’s biggest attractions included the return of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi as collaborators. Their latest project arrived almost 30 years after their previous association. Preity Zinta was also part of the ensemble cast. Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal featured alongside the lead actors. Another challenge for ‘Batwara 1947’ was its direct box office competition. The film released alongside Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’. The clash added pressure to its theatrical run.

Preity Zinta is now preparing for her next project, Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Vibe’. The actor will be seen in a role that is considerably different from her previous work.
