After Kriti addressed criticism over her outfit and questioned the idea of judging a woman’s respect for tradition through her clothing, Nupur shared a pointed response on social media.

Taking to social media, Nupur didn’t hold back in defending her sister. “Imagine being this bothered by what another woman chooses to wear. Respectfully, evolve,” she wrote, adding a pointed note about her own place in the ad. “PS: I’m the one she tied the rakhi to, and if I don’t have a problem with it, why do you?”

The row began after Kriti appeared in an ivory lehenga featuring a deep-neck blouse and a cape-style drape for the Rakshabandhan campaign. While several viewers appreciated the styling, others called the outfit inappropriate for the occasion, framing their criticism around notions of culture and tradition.
Kriti Sanon hits back at trolls
Addressing the criticism directly on Instagram, Kriti questioned the recurring tendency to judge a woman’s cultural values based on her clothing. “The essence of festivals is not in the clothes you wear; it is in the emotions and meaning you hold for the traditions,” she wrote. She went on to describe her personal bond with Nupur, explaining that the rakhi tradition between them is rooted in mutual protection and care, extending even to their pets. “After all, they are family!” she added, before turning her focus to the broader criticism, asking, “Also, when will we stop telling women what to wear?? Ethnic fashion has evolved over the years, but still a woman’s respect for her culture is measured by just her clothes!! Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”
Kangana Ranaut also reacts to Kriti Sanon’s advertisement
The backlash had earlier been amplified by actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who shared her reaction on Instagram Stories. She pointed to the range of clothing available to women today, questioning the choice of outfit for the ad. “It’s a wonderful time to be a woman. Our closets are full of variety of clothes, today’s woman is a global woman. From cocktail dresses to lehenga cholis, jeans to saris, bikinis to salwar kameez, from all the options that are available to us today why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments? Where are all your styling options? Ha ha the advert looks intentionally creepy!” she wrote.
