Karthi recalls the ‘haunting’ ‘Sardar’ dialogue about bottled water
During a recent conversation with Sony Music South, Karthi, director PS Mithran and actor SJ Suryah discussed ‘Sardar 2’ and revisited the first film. Recalling the scene that affected him the most, Karthi said, “There is a line which goes, ‘Each and every bottled water that is sold for money represents the twisting of a child’s neck.’ As that dialogue is said, the cap of a bottle is twisted.”Karthi revealed that Mithran had described the idea to him while narrating the story. The actor admitted that the moment stayed with him long after filming. “But that was very haunting for me,” he said.

Karthi also spoke about the larger message conveyed through the scene and why it continues to resonate. “Every generation should be responsible for the well-being of the next,” he said.SJ Suryah, meanwhile, highlighted the film’s focus on the quality of food and water people consume. “We think we are living in an evolved society, but the amount of filth that we consume goes unnoticed and unrealised,” he said, praising Mithran for tackling a serious subject within an entertaining commercial format.Their comments have once again brought the social and environmental concerns at the heart of Sardar into focus as its sequel approaches its theatrical release.

Released in 2022, ‘Sardar’ followed a former spy who returns to India to take on a powerful company involved in a dangerous bottled-water operation. Written and directed by PS Mithran, the film starred Karthi in a dual role alongside Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Laila and others.‘Sardar 2’ will expand the spy-thriller universe, with SJ Suryah joining the franchise as the main antagonist. The teaser has already teased an intense confrontation between Karthi and Suryah. The sequel is scheduled to release on September 10.
