Katrina Kaif recently faced online trolling over her postpartum appearance after she attended the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations with husband Vicky Kaushal. The criticism prompted Salman Khan to seemingly call out those targeting the actress on ‘Bigg Boss 20’. Now, Parineeti Chopra has also spoken out against the scrutiny female actors face over their bodies, particularly after childbirth.Parineeti was asked about the trolling directed at Katrina and Salman’s apparent response to it. The actress criticised the mindset behind commenting on a woman’s postpartum body and called such remarks completely ‘uneducated’.In a conversation with PTI, “When someone comments on a postpartum body, I find it uneducated,” Parineeti shared. “You get a haircut, your hair’s going to be shorter. You go for a vacation, you’re going to come back with a tan. There’s going to be evidence of what you did on your body, and all that is celebrated. But making a human life, a baby, that evidence on the body is not celebrated. How is it negative?”Drawing a comparison between everyday changes in appearance and the physical changes that come with pregnancy, Parineeti said she would view stretch marks as something to celebrate rather than criticise.“I would look at a woman and say, ‘Oh my God, I see a stretch mark. Did you grow a baby? That’s so amazing. How’s your baby?’ That’s how I would look at it. I would look at your haircut and say, Oh, did you get a new haircut? Your hair looks really cool.’ How can I make that evidence on a woman’s body negative? I find it uneducated,” she said.Parineeti also revealed that she intentionally stays away from social media to avoid getting caught up in online negativity. For her, engaging with trolls is simply not worth the time or energy.“And who are these people who are commenting? I mean, why are we talking about it? It’s such a stupid waste of time to even speak about it,” she said.She further questioned why the physical changes caused by pregnancy should be viewed negatively, pointing out that they are a natural part of bringing a child into the world.“So a woman produces a baby, her body may have changed. If it doesn’t change, I’d be worried. Every pregnancy will give you some evidence that you have grown a whole entire human being”The actress said she remains largely unaware of the trolling directed at her or others because she does not give it much importance.“I don’t even know the trolling that is happening around me, around people… because that’s how insignificant I feel it is,” she said.Questioning why people spend their time targeting celebrities online, Parineeti added, “Are they trying to make a career on social media? Are they trying to get attention? Are they trying to get followers? What is the problem?”
