Veteran Malayalam film producer and distributor N G John, popularly known as Geo Kuttappan, has passed away in Kochi at the age of 90. The veteran film personality died at Ernakulam Medical Centre at around 1.30 am on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack, according to Asianet News.Geo Kuttappan’s death came just as his family was preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday.

Geo Kuttappan passes away at 90

N G John was widely known in the Malayalam film industry as Geo Kuttappan. He was the son of N X George, who was among the early distributors associated with Malayalam cinema.Geo Kuttappan followed his family’s connection with the film business and became involved in production and distribution.Geo Kuttappan’s connection with the film industry also extended to the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. He was associated with the organisation from its early period after its formation in 1939.In 1966, he became the president of the Kerala Film Chamber. He also served as an executive member of the South Indian Film Chamber. He held the position of Film Chamber president for six years.

Geo Kuttappan and I V Sasi films

A significant part of Geo Kuttappan’s production career was linked to director I V Sasi. He produced several movies directed by the filmmaker.His credits with I V Sasi include ‘Iniyum Puzhayozhukum’, ‘Ezham Kadalinnakkare’, ‘Meen’, ‘Innallenkil Naale’, ‘Eenaadu’, ‘Iniyenkilum’ and ‘Ithrayum Kaalam’.

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Unaroo‘ among production credits

Geo Kuttappan was also associated with several other Malayalam movies. His production credits include J Sasikumar’s ‘Minimol’ and M Krishnan Nair’s ‘Rajaneegandhi’.He also produced Bhadran’s ‘Aattuvanchi Ulanjappol’. Another notable credit was ‘Unaroo’, the Malayalam movie directed by Mani Ratnam. ‘Unaroo’ featured Sukumaran and Mohanlal in important roles. The movie is part of Mani Ratnam’s early work in Malayalam cinema.

Funeral arrangements announced

The funeral of Geo Kuttappan will take place on Thursday at Mary Queen’s Church Cemetery on Pipeline Road in Thoppil, Edappally, Kochi The FEFKA Directors’ Union has also paid tribute to the veteran producer and distributor.
