A cab driver from Hyderabad is being talked about online for the life she has rebuilt after years of personal and financial struggle. Nandini’s story, shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter), covers the loss of her parents, a divorce, a battle with breast cancer and a debt of ₹7 lakh that she is repaying by driving long hours across the city.

Who is Nandini?

Nandini, a cab driver from Hyderabad, lost her parents early in life. She and her three sisters were raised by their maternal uncles.She went on to complete her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing and later got married to a man from Vijayawada. The marriage ended in divorce due to personal reasons.

A diagnosis that changed everything

While working at a hospital, Nandini felt pain in her chest. Doctors diagnosed her with breast cancer.She sold her gold and borrowed money to pay for the surgery, which cost her ₹ 4 lakh.

Rebuilding from zero

After recovering, Nandini was left with a debt of ₹7 lakh. She says no one came forward to help her at the time, according to the post.She moved to Hyderabad and took up a job at a hospital, working from 7 am to 1:30 pm. In the afternoons, she drove for the bike taxi service Rapido and the food delivery platform Zomato to earn more.With help from an acquaintance, she bought her own car and started driving full time for the ride hailing platform Uber.

A long day behind the wheel

Nandini now leaves home at 6 am and returns at 11 pm. She earns around ₹4,000 a day. Out of that, her profit is between ₹2,000 and ₹2,500, once fuel and other costs are covered.She runs her household and supports her three children on this income.Her journey, from losing her parents to surviving cancer, divorce and debt, mirrors what many women in India’s gig economy go through while trying to rebuild their lives on their own.
