When the alleged paper leak forced the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 to be conducted again, many candidates were left wondering whether months of preparation had gone to waste.For Uplakshya Goyal, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 3 in the re-examination, the uncertainty did not last long.After the initial disappointment, he decided to look at the second examination differently.“It felt uncertain whether the result would have any value after so much hard work. Later, I saw the re-examination as an opportunity to correct my mistakes,” Goyal told PTI.His approach paid off. The re-examination ended with one of the country’s top ranks.
A routine built around one goal
Goyal said preparing for medical entrance examinations meant putting almost everything else aside.He studied for 10 to 12 hours every day, avoided family functions and social outings, and kept his focus on becoming a doctor.“The biggest happiness is seeing my parents happy. They always supported me.” The result, he said, was as much a reflection of that support as it was of his preparation.
Advice for future NEET aspirants
Looking back at his preparation, Goyal said there was no shortcut to success.He advised future candidates to rely on their teachers, solve questions regularly and appear for frequent mock tests to improve confidence.“Students should trust their teachers, practise questions regularly and take frequent tests,” he told PTI.His advice comes after a counselling season in which lakhs of students are preparing for admission to medical colleges following the declaration of the NEET UG results.
Family says he never lost sight of his target
For Goyal’s parents, the rank marked the end of a journey that had one clear objective from the beginning.His father, Mukesh Goyal, said his son had always planned to clear NEET in his first attempt without taking a drop year.“He always wanted to become a doctor. Even after the paper leak, he remained focused. We knew from his level of preparation that he would perform well,” he told PTI.His mother, Anuradha Goyal, said the family had seen him give up social engagements to concentrate on his studies and pursue his goal of studying at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).“Even when he was disappointed after the paper leak, he regained confidence and continued working hard,” she told PTI.She also said that Goyal often helped friends with their academic doubts and believed determination and dedication were the foundations of success.
From uncertainty to the next stage
For many candidates, the alleged paper leak became the defining moment of the 2026 NEET UG cycle. For Goyal, it became a turning point.Rather than allowing the uncertainty to disrupt his preparation, he chose to treat the re-examination as another opportunity. That decision has now placed him among the top three rank holders in the country as thousands of successful candidates prepare for the next stage of the admission process.
