Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s youngest daughter, Vivienne, has legally filed a petition at the Los Angeles County Superior Court to drop ‘Pitt’ from her name. A week after turning 18, she followed her siblings’ steps. As unconventional as it may seem, Hollywood is renowned for adapting new stage names and ditching surnames. Over the years, many media personalities have changed their legal names for interesting personal reasons. From Nicolas Cage to Suri Noelle, here’s a closer look at Hollywood celebrities and star kids changing their names.

Shiloh Jolie

Shiloh Jolie, a dancer and the former couple’s first biological child, filed to change her legal name in 2024, a day after she turned 18, per The Independent. The movement was followed by her three siblings, who have individually filed petitions. Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, the youngest daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, filed the petition citing ‘personal’ reasons. The hearing is scheduled for November 2, 2026. Before Vivienne, her siblings Maddox and Zahara posted a public notice under California Law to remove ‘Pitt’ from their names.

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage, whose legal name was Nicolas Coppola, recently changed his legal name to what he was famously known as in 2025. “I am Nick Cage. I changed my name legally last year,” he said in the Variety interview, before adding, “I’m Nick Cage in life, and I’m Nick Cage on camera. ‘Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else’s, so I decided I’m going to bring it on and be ‘Cage.’”

Suri Noelle

Suri Noelle, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, was known as Suri Cruise for a long time. However, she used the new name at her high school graduation in New York City, per Page Six. ‘Noelle’ came from her mother’s middle name. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes filed for divorce in 2012, and settled five weeks later. The reports suggest that the actor has been estranged from Suri.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie’s kids followed in her steps of changing names. In 2002, the actress changed her name from Angelina Jolie Voight by removing her father’s surname. “I did not want to be Voight, as an actress, because people would react to the name,” Jolie said to The Sun in 2011, before adding, “Dad always used to apologise, when I was young, for the fact that articles described me as ‘Jon Voight’s daughter.’” As for her children changing their names, Jolie has not shared any comment publicly.
