NSE settles pending Sebi cases for nearly Rs 1,500 crore

MUMBAI: National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday said that markets regulator Sebi has accepted in-principle revised terms of settlement for certain past regulatory lapses, against a payment of Rs 1,491 crore. The settlement issue which was under process for several years, now paves a smooth sailing of NSE’s IPO for which the exchange has filed the offer document.“NSE has received a communication dated July 30, 2026, from (Sebi) regarding the in-principle acceptance of the Revised Settlement Terms proposed by the (exchange),” the bourse said in a statement.“Sebi has in principle agreed to accept the terms of the settlement and has made a demand of Rs 714.74 crore, in addition to the deposit of Rs 776.47 crore made by NSE with Sebi, which will be adjusted towards the settlement amount,” the release added.The cases, popularly referred to as the co-location case and dark-fibre case, involved several former top NSE officials who allowed preferential access to the exchange’s trading systems and the related data to some brokers for making illegal gains.Last month, NSE in its IPO prospectus had disclosed that it had submitted a revised settlement term with Sebi for settling these cases. Within the proposal, NSE had offered to settle the co-location case for Rs 1,223.6 crore and the dark-fibre case for Rs 267.7 crore.
