'Ramayana' to release in India 2 DAYS LATE; Namit Malhotra reveals film debuts internationally on November 6 and in India on November 8

After waiting it out for the trailer release of ‘Ramayana’, fans in India may just have to wait a tad longer to watch the film on the big screens. Producer Namit Malhotra sent waves online, as he cleared the air about the much-talked-about release schedule of the film. Speaking in his latest round of interviews, he shared that the highly anticipated epic will release in international markets two days before its India premiere.

‘Ramayana’ to release in India 2 days late

The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, will open internationally on November 6, 2026, while Indian audiences are expected to see the film on November 8, coinciding with Diwali. Speaking to NDTV, Malhotra confirmed, “It’s releasing in India on Diwali.”When asked if the Indian release had been shifted, Malhotra explained, “So we are releasing internationally on November 6. The international distribution works from a Friday standpoint, so that’s why it’s releasing on the 6th of November. But in India, we are currently targeting the Diwali release.”This means international audiences will get an early look at the film on Friday, November 6, while the Indian audience waits it out for a Sunday release, coinciding with the Diwali festival.

Namit Malhotra on taking ‘Ramayana’ to global audience

The clarification comes as the makers intensify their efforts to position the Indian epic as a global cinematic event. Speaking to ANI, Malhotra revealed that the film’s promotional material has already achieved a major milestone. “”The trailer was released last week, and it has received over a billion views in just five days, which is a great moment for India. We truly appreciate all the love we’ve received from people across the world. Our aspiration now is to take Ramayana to a global audience.”The producer also highlighted the film’s partnership with Sony Pictures, which is handling its international distribution.“Through our partnership with Sony Pictures, we hope Ramayana will be released worldwide as a major global film, distributed by Sony…Ramayana belongs to all of us, and we are passionately working to make it the best it can be. So keep the faith, continue to give us your love and support, and we will not disappoint you,” Malhotra said.

Is Ramayana aiming for Oscar glory?

With ‘Ramayana’ being positioned as an international production, and several Indian personalities already buzzing about the film becoming an Oscar contender, Malhotra was also asked whether an Academy Award was part of the project’s ambitions. The producer shared, “The aspiration behind the Ramayana is not for the sake of an Academy Award. That being said, having our work celebrated and showcased at a premier institution that looks at all the top creatives of the world, it would be nothing short of a great moment for India.Sharing his goal for the film, he added, “But, if you ask me if that is really my goal, then that’s not really my goal. Because I want to make sure that we first connect to the hearts of the people of India. Then the rest of the world looks at our culture and looks at what we’re making and feels that appreciation of our ability to bring such spectacular storytelling to screens.”

‘Ramayana’ release

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being mounted as a two-part cinematic epic, with Part 1 releasing in India on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 slated for its release on Diwali 2027.
