Samantha Ruth Prabhu, one of the leading ladies of Tamil and Telugu cinema, has always been known to be open and candid about her opinions. Whether it be something like relationship advice or battling hate and negative comments, the actress has never shied away from uncomfortable conversations. Not only that, but she has also translated this attribute into her work as well by picking diverse and unconventional roles.One such iconic moment comes from when she made her debut on ‘Koffee with Karan.’ While talking about her career in the film industry, the actress ended up addressing nepotism in Tollywood.

When Samantha Ruth Prabhu called out nepotism

On July 21, 2022, the actress officially made her debut on ‘Koffee with Karan’ and joined famed filmmaker Karan Johar on the famous red couch. While talking about her career in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Johar ended up candidly asking her about the trend of nepotism in Tollywood, further asking what her thoughts on how “Somebody’s son always becomes a lead actor, somebody’s nephew is always propped up by the family. They don’t think it’s a big deal at all because that’s the order of the way. There were few actors, may be a Vijay Deverakonda that came from the outside and broke through.”To this, Prabhu opened up about her opinion, and shared that, “Nepo kids, non-nepo kids, everyone comes with their own demons, and they have their own demons to face.” She also talked about how different the circumstances are for actors who are starting off from nothing, versus the actors who come from families with acting background. She added, “And for me, when I entered the industry, if I failed, just my mom, dad, and my brothers would have known that I failed. But when a star kid fails, the whole country knows.”She further concluded her point by adding that at the end of the day it does not matter if you come from nowhere or if you come from an acting family, the ball is always going to be in the audiences’ court about whether they like you and accept you or not.

How did Samantha Ruth Prabhu start off in the entertainment industry?

Samantha Ruth Prabhu came from humble beginnings and started off her career in the entertainment industry as a model. While studying commerce at Stella Maris College in Chennai, the actress took up modeling gigs in order to help and provide financial support to her family. In 2010, after she was approached by some directors for certain roles, she officially made her debut in the Tamil film ‘Ye Maaya Chesave.’ Following the huge success of her debut role, Prabhu booked films in both Tamil and Telugu cinema and, over the years, has worked on some of the biggest blockbuster hits. Some of her best-known works over the years include ‘Yashoda’, ‘Mersal’, and ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’.
