Mollywood is bringing back two popular classics for a new theatrical experience. Priyadarshan‘s ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ is set to return to the big screen in a restored 4K Dolby Atmos version. The makers have also released the re-release teaser.Meanwhile, Mohanlal‘s ‘Chandrolsavam’ is also heading back to theatres with a technical upgrade.
‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ returns to theatres
Released in 1994, ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ remains one of the most celebrated films in Malayalam cinema.The film features an ensemble cast led by Mohanlal and Shobana. Nedumudi Venu, Pappu, Sreenivasan, Sukumari and Kaviyoor Ponnamma are also part of the cast. The original 35mm print has been scanned in 4K as part of the restoration process.The makers have worked with Priyadarshan and his team during the restoration.The makers shared a note on social media, “Dear viewers, In 1994, a film arrived that brought together romance, humour, a rural setting and beautiful music — ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’. We watched that film and laughed… felt sad… We sang and enjoyed every song at our weddings and celebrations. And, without even realising it, we grew up. But somehow, that film did not grow old with us.Even today, every frame, every character, every song and every laugh from the film remains just as fresh in our memories. For the past year, we at Matinee Now have been on a journey to bring those memories back to the big screen.”
Makers invite a new generation
The restoration team has also highlighted the emotional connection audiences have with the movie. Several artists associated with the film are no longer alive.The makers added, “Many legendary artists who were part of this film are no longer with us today. Yet, this September, they will return to the big screen for a while. To make us laugh again… cheer again… and perhaps even bring tears to our eyes… Let us travel with them once more and watch ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ again.”
‘Chandrolsavam’ gets 4K Dolby Atmos upgrade
Mohanlal’s ‘Chandrolsavam’ is also returning to theatres in a technically enhanced version.Mohanlal announced the return of ‘Chandrolsavam’ with the caption, “A timeless love story returns to the big screen. Relive the magic of ‘Chandrolsavam’ in stunning 4K Dolby Atmos.”
