Sarvesh Kushare added another international medal to his collection on Sunday, winning silver in the men’s high jump at the Asian Games in Japan.Kushare cleared 2.25m to finish second. Chinese Taipei’s Chao-hsuan Fu also cleared 2.25m but won gold, while South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo took bronze with a best effort of 2.22m. He cleared 2.10m, 2.14m, 2.18m, 2.22m and 2.25m before failing to clear 2.28m in all three attempts.
Who is Sarvesh Kushare ?
Born on June 17, 1995, in Devargaon village near Nashik, Maharashtra, Kushare began his athletics journey under coach R W Jadhav. He has been among India’s leading high jumpers for more than a decade and has represented the country at major international competitions.Kushare won silver at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok with a 2.26m jump. That performance also secured his qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.He has also represented India at the Asian Games and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.Kushare produced a landmark performance at the World Athletics Championships in 2025, finishing sixth in the men’s high jump.It was India’s best-ever finish in the men’s high jump at the World Athletics Championships.In 2026, he raised the bar further by clearing a national record of 2.31m, becoming the first Indian high jumper to clear more than 2.30m.
From fourth in Hangzhou to silver in Japan
Kushare had narrowly missed an Asian Games medal in 2022. He cleared 2.26m in Hangzhou but finished fourth.Four years later, he returned to the Asian Games podium with a silver after clearing 2.25m in Japan.The medal also adds to his silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
