Playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada and actor-politician Khushbu Sundar have strongly reacted to recent remarks involving Vijay and Trisha, emphasising that women should not be targeted in public or political discourse. Sharing their views on social media, both public figures called for greater respect and dignity towards women, stressing that political disagreements should never come at the cost of personal attacks. Their statements have sparked widespread discussion online, with many users echoing concerns about maintaining civility and accountability in public conversations.
Chinmayi says women should not be dragged into public discourse
Reacting to the controversy, Chinmayi shared a detailed note on X, questioning why women were being brought into political conversations. She wrote, “If men in politics could just focus on actual issues instead of dragging women who have nothing to do with their scheme of things – it would be stellar.” Referring to the controversial remark, she added, “I didn’t understand what the purported underlying meaning of what the LoP of Tamil Nadu said. Someone known to me explained it a while ago. I thought it was about a water connection. Turns out most women didn’t get it. It was a Bro thing.” She further stated, “The least he could have done was tell his audience to pipe down or tell them to behave better, but he went ahead to say something far worse.” Chinmayi concluded by saying, “The older generation’s profanity was normalised… but someone in the younger generation is expected to be better, not profanely worse. What a disappointment. Women are not outraged enough — in rage and in solidarity.”
Khushbu calls the remarks ‘Crass’ and demands an apology
Actor Khushbu Sundar also strongly criticised the comments and urged that public discussions should never cross the line. She wrote, “Heard Udhayanidhi Stalin‘s speech. It was crass, cheap and deeply derogatory; reflecting the very political culture he seems eager to inherit.” She further added, “Those who normalize such language should remember that once the dignity of women is made a political casualty, no family (including your own) is immune from the same treatment. Public discourse must have boundaries, regardless of political differences. Women need to be respected and not treated as a pawn to play to your whims and fancies.” Khushbu also demanded an apology, saying, “The Leader of the Opposition owes Trisha an unconditional public apology for insulting her on a public platform. Let’s see if he can own up to his actions and has the courage and decency to apologise.”
