Bangladesh produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 34 runs in the second T20I, levelling the three-match series 1-1 and setting up a winner-takes-all decider on Sunday. After being comprehensively outplayed in the opening match, the visitors responded in emphatic fashion with a much-improved display in all three departments. Zimbabwe, in contrast, endured a rare off day with the bat, ball and in the field, dropping multiple catches before failing to chase down a challenging target of 187.Bangladesh made full use of the reprieves on offer to post 186, before their bowlers ensured Zimbabwe never gained momentum in the chase.

Zimbabwe’s fielding woes prove costly

Zimbabwe’s troubles began in the field as a string of dropped catches allowed Bangladesh’s top order to dominate.Opener Saif Hassan was the biggest beneficiary, surviving several chances as he combined with Tanzid Hasan Tamim for a superb 120-run opening partnership that laid the foundation for a competitive total.Despite the sloppy fielding, Zimbabwe briefly fought back by claiming five wickets in quick succession, raising hopes of restricting the visitors to a below-par score. However, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin ensured Bangladesh finished strongly. Saifuddin provided the late fireworks, smashing four sixes off Brad Evans in the final over to propel Bangladesh to 186 and shift the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour. The late assault proved decisive, with Zimbabwe ultimately left to rue the costly mistakes that allowed Bangladesh to build such a formidable total.

Rishad, Mahedi seal comfortable victory

Zimbabwe never truly threatened during the chase as Bangladesh’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.Unlike the opening T20I, where Zimbabwe dictated proceedings, none of their batters managed to convert starts into substantial innings. The hosts kept losing wickets at crucial moments, preventing any meaningful partnerships from developing. No Zimbabwe batter crossed the 30-run mark as the required run rate continued to climb.Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was the chief destroyer, finishing with four wickets to derail the chase, while Mahedi Hasan provided excellent support with three scalps.Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack complemented the batting effort perfectly, wrapping up Zimbabwe’s innings 34 runs short of the target. The comprehensive victory marked an ideal response from the visitors after their disappointing defeat in the series opener. It also ended Zimbabwe’s early dominance on the tour, with the hosts unable to match the intensity they had shown in the first game. With the series now tied at 1-1, both teams head into Sunday’s third and final T20I knowing that victory will secure the series.
