Essential items like groceries and medicines are still acceptable, reflecting practical needs. This observance emphasizes simplicity and contemplation rather than consumerism during Shradh Paksha.

Most Hindu families avoid unnecessary shopping during Shradh Paksha and put off some purchases until the fortnight is over.Some things are often avoided as Pitru Paksha is considered a period of simplicity rather than festivity or material growth.
