Day 3 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle is under a significant rain threat, with an 83% overall chance of precipitation forecast for the day. After rain disrupted proceedings on Day 2, another stop-start day could be on the cards.India remain firmly in control after reaching 460/9 at stumps on Day 2, with Devdutt Padikkal’s magnificent 167 providing the foundation for a huge first-innings total. The visitors will now look to add a few more runs before turning their attention to Sri Lanka’s batting line-up.

Rain threat throughout Day 3

As per AccuWeather forecast offers little encouragement for uninterrupted play, with rain chances remaining significant across all three sessions. The morning session is expected to begin with a 51% chance of rain at 10am, easing slightly to around 47% at 11am. The threat remains persistent around midday, with precipitation chances at 44% at noon and 48% at 1pm.The rain risk is expected to peak at around 52% at 2pm, before easing marginally during the final session. The probability stands at 45% at 3pm and could drop to 34% by 5pm.With the weather remaining unpredictable, ground staff could once again face a busy day at the Galle International Stadium.

India in command after Padikkal’s masterclass

India will resume from 460/9, having dominated large portions of the opening two days. The standout performer has been Devdutt Padikkal, who produced a superb 167 to anchor India’s innings and underline his growing credentials at No. 3. His innings proved particularly valuable as India continued to pile on the runs despite interruptions.With only one wicket remaining, India will be keen to stretch their advantage further before handing Sri Lanka the opportunity to bat. The hosts, meanwhile, face the daunting prospect of taking on an Indian bowling attack with a huge first-innings total already on the board.
